Moving Day

The Start

When the movers arrive they will introduce themselves and let you know which of them is in charge. If they do not, ask. You need to know who you can talk to if you have any questions or are worried about any aspect of the move.

It is best to show them around and point out any items you do not want them to put in the van. If they are small items it is better to put them all in one room. Larger items can be labelled.

If there are any items you would like unloaded first at your new home (maybe cots, kettle, tea bags etc.) let them know so they can put them on the van last.

If you have made a floor plan of your new home make the movers aware of it and give them a copy if available.

Let them know about anything that may need extra care taken with it ( loose leg on a table, very delicate items etc.).

The Middle

The movers are now ready to start loading.

Try to be around in case there are any questions they have about things that may have been overlooked.

Once the vans are loaded have a walk around with one of the movers to make sure that all that should have been taken has gone and anything that should have been left is still there.

As you check each room make sure all windows are locked and electrical appliances turned off, then close the door behind you.

When you are sure everything has been done check with the movers that they have the correct address of your new home and that they know the way there.

Get a contact number from the movers and give them your number in case there are any problems between leaving your old address and arriving at your new one.

Ask the movers for an approximate time of arrival at your new home. They may take a lunch break and this will give you time to get some lunch as well instead of waiting around.

The End

When the movers arrive at your new home show them around and tell them what each room is, main bedroom, study etc. Tell them where the furniture is going so they do not stack boxes in that area and have to move them again.

Try to be near the entrance to tell the movers which room you want your furniture put in, boxes should not be a problem if they have been labelled.

Once the vans have been unloaded have a walk around with one of the movers and check that the correct furniture is in each room and that anything they should have assembled has been done and to your satisfaction.

You can now say goodbye to the movers and start the unpacking !
